Dear ONE Member,

I want to share our Final Report on Senator McCain's and Senator Obama's plans to address global poverty.

A year ago, you made history by getting eleven major Democratic and Republican candidates to go "On The Record" with detailed anti-poverty plans. Now, with just five days to go before Election Day, I hope you'll click below to see the most up-to-date versions of Senator McCain's and Senator Obama's plans to address global poverty.

http://www.onevote08.org/ontherecord/comparegeneral.html?id=638-3986886-9a5AUSx&t=2

This month, 69,374 ONE members signed petitions to Senators Obama and McCain asking them to keep the poverty-fighting commitments they made when they went On The Record. In these tough economic times, you delivered the message that leading the world in the fight against global poverty is still the American thing to do.

ONE is a nonpartisan organization that does not endorse or oppose any candidate, but we do want you to know where the candidates stand as you go to the polls. You can see Obama's and McCain's plans side-by-side by clicking on the link below. While you're there, make sure to check out our exclusive video interviews with John McCain and Barack Obama.

http://www.onevote08.org/ontherecord/comparegeneral.html?id=638-3986886-9a5AUSx&t=3

Together, we've done so much to focus the attention of the candidates, the media, and the American people on the struggle to end extreme poverty during this long presidential campaign. Now it's time to exercise our electoral power by showing up at the polls next Tuesday.

Thank you for making a difference,

David Lane, ONE.org

Friend --

I know this campaign has asked a lot of you.

But in the next 5 days, Barack will need you more than ever before.

Together, we can make sure all voters head to the polls and make their voices heard in this election. And we can get Barack's message of change out to millions and millions of Americans in these final hours.

That's why I'm asking you to dig deep and make one final donation to help get us across the finish line.

Take a minute to consider what's at stake, then please make a donation of $5 or more today.

I've been blessed over the last 21 months to have been invited into your communities and to hear so many of your personal stories.

Supporters like you have told me about loved ones who can't afford health care, and relatives who've been laid off from jobs they've had for decades. About family members fighting bravely in Iraq, and worries about affording college in a struggling economy.

But what I've heard more than anything else is hope. A shared hope that if we work together, we can change politics and make this country better for all Americans.

I know that we can make it happen -- and we are so very close.

Make a donation of $5 or more and stand with Barack these last few days:

https://donate.barackobama.com/forbarack

The strength of this campaign has always come from the individual stories and hard work of millions of supporters like you.

Thank you for being part of this movement,

Michelle

Election Watch: Successfully Cast Your Vote

In my inbox today:

Dear Elizabeth,

Why would anyone want to stop you from voting? It's simple – because when you can control who votes, you can control who wins. Check out this compelling new video put together by the folks at VideoTheVote. It's fun, dynamic, and does a great job of telling the story of what's at stake and the power of our vote.

http://colorofchange.org/yourvote/?id=1734-683147

This year, with so many Black voters, young voters, and folks from all backgrounds who want change participating in huge numbers, those who want to hold onto power by suppressing the vote are in full force. But they can't stop us.

Here are a few things to keep in mind to make sure you successfully cast your vote, and to help others do the same.

Be Prepared, and Conquer the Lines.

We can't let long lines stop anyone from voting. There are several ways you can reduce lines and make sure they don't prevent you or anyone else from voting:

Vote early if you can.
You can find early voting times and locations at govote.org.

Double-check your polling location before you go to vote.
You can look it up at govote.org.

Have a Plan & Have Fun.
Have a plan in case there are lines. Bring some food, drinks, friends, books, games, a chair – anything that will prevent you and other voters from walking away. Have fun while you wait and encourage your friends and neighbors to stay in line so their vote is counted.
Don't give up–don't walk away without voting.

Two numbers you should have in your phone.

Put these numbers in your phone so you're prepared to report problems and help other voters find their polling place:

866-OUR-VOTE
It's a hotline that's been set up to collect information about problems on election day–lawyers and election protection advocates are ready to respond. It's the best way to make sure someone addresses any problems you see.

The number for your local election board
Have it in case you need to tell someone where they can vote. Enter your zip code at govote.org, then look for “Contact [your county] election officials” on the right.

Beware of lies, misinformation and dirty tricks; spread the truth.

Republican operatives are spreading plain lies to frighten new voters. In Philadelphia, anonymous flyers in Black neighborhoods have falsely claimed that voters with unpaid traffic tickets or outstanding warrants will be arrested at the polls. If you hear a scary rumor, it's probably a lie. Call your local election officials to check it out–and make sure your friends and neighbors know the truth.

Leave the Obama gear at home.

In some places, you won't be allowed into the polling place if you're wearing clothes and pins that support a given candidate. This isn't true everywhere, but it's best to play it safe. You can contact your local board of elections to find out if it's a problem in your area. If it is, bring some extra plain T-shirts or sweaters to loan neighbors who show up unaware of the rule.

Read the ballot carefully, and ask questions!

Some ballots can be confusing even for smart and informed voters. Read instructions on the ballot carefully, and if you're not sure you understand something, ask a poll worker to explain. Remember what happened in 2000 in Florida–a confusing ballot caused thousands of people to mistakenly vote for the wrong Presidential candidate. Don't let that happen to you!

Thanks and Peace,

– James, Gabriel, Clarissa, Andre, Kai, and the rest of the ColorOfChange.org PAC team

We Are The Ones Song by will.i.am - Obama

people say Obama's words are just words...
but...
when was the last time "words" weren't important...???...

when was the last time a great leader didn't use words to lead...??...
when was the last time a person didn't use words to describe how they felt...?...
when was the last time "words" weren't empowering...?...

and we can all recall the last time "words" were used to divide us and install fear...

Bush used words to fear us into voting for him the second time around...
terror this...
terror that...
nuclear here...
weapons of mass destruction there...

and those words effected a lot of people's choices...

"enough is enough"...
let's rebuild...

let's change ourselves...
let's allow positivity to guide us...

let's take action....
let's activate our passion...
we are Americans....

and this is the first time in forever that someone running for president represents "US"...

some say this is all excitement...
I call it "proud to be an American"...

some say this whole Obama movement is "cult like"...
well...
if it comes across cult like...
then...
the cult is called America...

the Obama movement is connecting America.
and it has made "US" realize our importance...
the youth is excited and activated...
adults are passionate and motivated...
the elderly are proud to know the country they built is in safe hands...

we are one...

for too long politics has been corrupt...
separate from the American people...
with agendas that go against what the American people "need"...
education...
health...
safety...
jobs
etc...

politicians have spoken a different language...
making it so the youth and poor people feel as if voting was only for the wealthy and old people...
making "US" feel as if "we" had no voice...
making "US" feel powerless...
making it feel like if "we" did vote it wouldn't change anything...

but wait...
that did happen...
some of us voted, and it didn't change anything...

we were in the dark...
we had no voice...
we were powerless...

because America was not a united America...
and "they" spoke a different language...
and they had an agenda different from our well being...

correct me if I'm wrong... or speak up if I'm missing something...

we want education, health, safety, and good jobs...right???...
oh yeah...
and "a healthy planet to live on"...

but here we are...

in a war... poor education... poor health programs... the dollar is down... the planet, polluted...
the rich, richer... and the poor, struggling...
with sky high gas prices to top it all off...

and now even the rich aren't really rich internationally because our dollar is has fallen so far down...

in our slumber... a very small few got really rich...

because when you're sleeping...

"it's hard to change agendas"...

we know what happened in 2000 and 2004...
but in 2008...
it's different...

we are awake...
and there is a movement...

and "it's hard to change a movement"...

last time "we" didn't have a movement...
America wasn't united...

and now "United and "Standing"...for something...
we know the power of "US"...
and we have a person who represents the "U.S."...

"US"...

"we are the ones we've been waiting for"...

I'm proud to be an American...

Urgent Update: Gaia + World Habitat Day!

Posted on Oct 6th, 2008 by Vote 2008 : o n e v o i c e 4 c h a n g e Vote 2008
Logo_1

Gaia!

Monday, October 6th is World Habitat Day, and we're joining Habitat for Humanity to celebrate in a way that matters. :)

Habitat, as you might know, works with low-income families to build homes across the globe, our big Gaia. They do an amazing job: over the past 32 years they've co-created housing for over 1.5 million people.

I'd love to invite you to help celebrate World Habitat Day by joining Habitat's sincere plea, and asking the next President to do something about the tremendous housing challenge in this country and around the world. All it takes is a click.

Follow the link below to ask Senators Obama and McCain:

If you become President, make the U.S. a world leader by ensuring that each of us has a place to call home, not just in the United States, but around the world.

Because there are options! Our next president could urge Congress to increase assistance to American families in need of housing through the new National Affordable Housing Trust Fund, and could increase U.S Foreign Assistance for housing and slums. Habitat for Humanity is a wonderful start, but if we're going to make a difference, we need more help than they alone can provide. :)

So please (please please!) join Gaia and Habitat for Humanity in recognition of World Habitat Day 2008, as we raise our voices and take a stand with the millions in need of adequate housing in cities, towns and communities in the United States and around the world. All those messages add up, and with your help, I know we can make a difference.

To warm beds, strong houses and beautiful hearts,
Jessica.

PS. Personally, I think Habitat's work is so, so important, because a home is more than just a physical space. It's a foundation where we can build our lives and our dreams, a place where families are created and communities begin. On a planet where billions lack a safe place to sleep, Habitat's work in the world is crucial, and I'm honored to play even a small role in helping them.

PPS: We're also celebrating World Habitat Day on Gaia! After you've sent your letters to Obama and McCain, come by Gaia and tell us what home means for you. What puts the heart into your home?

6th Grade Student's American Flag Art

“The split red and blue on the flag shows how America is split by the current government. The faces represent other nations and the headphones represent America’s closed mindedness to other nations.”
--Student artist’s own words.

This art was exhibited on a bulletin board of a gifted and talented magnet shool in the US in December of 2005. I won't name the school for fear that it might alert federal agents to investigate and intimidate the teacher or the school for being "anti-american".
